With a railroad system that extends throughout the country with an extension of 2,961 kilometers, Uruguay has been involved in rail transportation for more than 150 years, having only half of its railroads in operation.

Thanks to the Central Railway project and the construction of the UPM 2 plant, a modern specialized port terminal has been set up, connecting the Port of Montevideo with Canelones, Florida, Durazno and finally Tacuarembó via 273 km of railroad track. This revitalized rail connection opens up new business opportunities for various industries throughout the country and offers the possibility of developing passenger transportation.

During 2022 and 2023, Planir Port Operator carried out the unloading operation, receiving all the necessary equipment to complete the 120 railcars and 7 locomotives that will transport 2.3 million tons of pulp per year, as well as the inputs for the UPM 2 mill.
